today was good
well, i did - but not the things i normally think/feel i should be doing. usually i feel the need to exercise, clean - do something that everyone generally views as productive. when i normally attempt these things though i never feel satisfied. i didn't enough exercising. i didn't do enough cleaning. etc. etc. so today i woke up early (9am is early for me on a saturday when chris works) and had ice-cream for breakfast. then i read my book for book club for awhile. then i took out my fancy yarn and knitted for a few hours while listening to my ipod (although i eventually had to turn it off when i found out that my brain could not sing along and count at the same time and i ended up having to take out 2 complete rows - i despise reverse knitting). i did attempt some cleaning - but it was because i wanted to and not because i felt i had to. i didn't get very far but i was pleased.
when chris got home we ran a few errands and got some pad thai for dinner (this after we just talked about how we should not eat out so much). then we watched the tele. i knitted. he called his mother. we played some cribbage. and now we're going to bed. we don't go to bed this early on weekdays!

updates
it's coming together. we've hung a few things. the second bedroom is still a disaster. i have so many ideas on how it could look better but have no money to buy the things to make it so. it's hard not being able to get what you want rightnow. kari and mark are going to visit this summer - hopefully there'll be enough room for them to sleep in there by then.
my mental state:
i'm far less crabby today. in fact - i'd go so far as to say i'm not crabby at all! (period going away = happy michelle) slightly frustrated with myself for not completely a workout dvd but the squats and lunges i did yesterday have made my thighs want to run away and hide....
christopher:
still amazing. still incredibly awesome. still love him an insane amount. still amazed that he loves me (and all my craziness)!
my job:
see previous post. nuff said.
crocheting/knitting projects:
i think i mentioned that i finally finished all of my christmas presents(!!!!!) i even finished the two burp clothes for my co-workers baby! now i just have to manage actually getting those things in the mail/delivered (this is the part where i usually fail). i am desperately trying to find a cute way to organize my yarn - having it neatly stored but yet visable (ideas? i'm thinking crates....)
my fat:
still (annoyingly) here. i'm working hard to make it go away though. according to the scale at work i'm down one pound. only 34 more to go......
minerva:
suprisingly more likable. as soon as i wrote that post about her she changed her tune. she will now tolerate you getting close(er) to her face and petting her. she has even taken to sleeping right by my head and also jumping into the sink whenever i'm in the bathroom doing anything in front of the mirror - kinda cute.
albus:
he's still incredibly strange. lick. lick. lick. lick. lick. lick. lick. lick. lick - you get the picture.
my hair:
it's getting long - but not cute long. it's that inbetween stage - neither long nor short. it's driving me insane and i desperately want to cut it but i'll give it a go until the end of may.
my stomach:
not hungry but chris is making dinner so i think i'll go chat with him :)

.access denied.
i understand the principle behind blocking sights such as this - who wants to pay people to read blogs when they should be working? they key words there being paid and work. i would say all of the employees get paid to work - i on the other get paid to crochet/knit/read/twiddle my thumbs. as exciting as that may sound it gets rather dull. i'd actually like to have more work (unless that means stamping thousands of papers - that sucks!) to do but i don't. and so to break up the day i check my blog. i read other peoples blogs. and now i can't. access denied.
we are not in pre-school here people....cut the restrictions. if someone isn't getting their work done - fire them. but if they are doing a great job and just so happen to read a few blogs over the lunch hour or during a slow time - who the crap cares, right? pish....

ah well. i'm not really crabby. not even really annoyed. just thing it's rather ridiculous is all - ya know? on a different note - I'm Sore! very very very very sore. it's a good sore though - haven't been sore from a workout in a long time so at least i know it worked something.
despite the soreness i did the second video tonight - cardio party. i managed to do most of it - the rest of the time i just shook and wriggled and waved my hands in the air like a moron because i could not keep up with their moves! they had the advantage of being on a slick wood floor whereas i was on not-slick carpet - making some of those position changes near impossible without dislocating a knee joint. but i feel good and that's what counts. luckily tomorrow is a rest day - i'm not excited about how sore i'll be tomorrow. especially when i sit all day and then stand - painful painful painful. makes me wish i had one of these - i heard about them on NPR today. too bad they cost so much - work would never go for it. sorry - acess denied.

all the young dudes.....
i don't think i mentioned it but i started weight watchers today. my co-worker started it as well and she told me how many points i could eat and my mother (who only signed up for the online version) lent me her login info so that i could use the point calculator. i think this will help me get the proper amount of food. i was never really overeating but rather not getting enough - causing me to be tired and in no mood to exercise like i should. so it's going well so far! i even did the elliptical and the first dvd workout of The Firm (my mom got this for herself and me for christmas). If you have the money - i recommend it! it comes with a series of weights (pink ones!) and 5 dvds that you rotate (so you don't get bored). i was really impressed with it and feel like i got a really good workout (55 minutes!) so yeah - worth the money (in my opinion).
so yeah - all of that has put in a great mood. i feel good. :)
oh - here are some pictures of the kitties from this evening. we learned that albus could really care less if you stick stuffed animals on his back and that minerva is a table scrap begger.

saturdays = ...............
shit - i woke up too late - but not shit becuase i finally got to sleep in....
crap - i need to exercise badly but have zero energy and zero willpower and would rather stare at the t.v. and be depressed about the state of humanity based on 'bret michael's - rock of love'
okay - getting motivated. paid rent (well - dropped of chris's check for rent). paid cable bill. charged ipod. must start to clean............
i love weekends but often find that without concrete deadlines i'm worthless. when i know i have the whole day to do things - they probably won't get done. i'll wait until the last minute and then start to panick that i didn't get anything done. sigh....
so starting now (even though - yes - it is 1pm - better late than never, right?) i'm going to clean. must clean. if time is left over i'll exercise. then i must finish hat orders. ipod is charged up and ready to go....

Making Strides
in other news - a friend at work is due to have her baby on March 1st. we were going to have a shower for her in February but unbeknownst to me it got moved to this Wednesday! i just started her gift this afternoon (thinking i had plenty of time!). now i'm faced with the task of finishing to custom burp clothes in less than 48 hours. eep! (reminds of carrie's shower where i found myself in the same situation - only then it was my own fault) i know i don't have to have them finished by the shower date - but i want to have them done. and so....after this post i will be plopping myself down in front of the tele for a night of crocheting. not that i mind though. i actually really love doing this.
speaking of crocheting - i'm down to one bear - as in one bear left to make. then all of my christmas presents will be complete and all i'll have to do is get them in the mail (which for me is usually the hardest part). since my reading has been sorely lacking since i've picked up this new habit i've decided to add a 'crocheted in 2008' column. i'd like to be able to include pictures too but haven not been able to figure that out. i'll start it as soon as i'm done with the bear :)
what else? went to joann fabrics this weekend and used up most of my gift card. yarn yarn and more yarn :) we also picked up two yards of this really pretty (and durable) fabric to use on the cat post :) i'll post pictures when it's done.
oh - i also got my new (pink) phone yesterday. i get (sadly) very attatched to things and hated to say goodbye to the old (red) one - especially since i had pictures on there that they could not get off. (there were two files in the phone 'In Camera' and 'Saved to Phone'. Once you took a picture it went to 'In Camera' - from there you could send it to another phone or your e-mail. Once you 'Saved to Phone' however it was just that - saved to your phone - unable to be sent anywhere. really annoying and rather misleading. hmph) so i ended up losing some really great pictures. sigh. i like my new phone though. the camera is way better and it's got some other fun features. i hate having to buy them though. i always feel like i'm getting taken to the cleaners (which i'm sure i am). ah well.
and now it's time for dinner :)
how was your day?

I'm going to Vomit......

OMG GOD!
i was sad to see jenah go home. especially after being told by Miss 'OMG GOD!' that she wasn't the kind of person she would want her little sister looking up to! ouch! i agreed with jenah - you don't have to go forth spewing rainbows to be a positive person. people who do spew forth rainbows are good for about 5 minutes and then you want to throttle them.
anyhow - after jenah got sent home i left the room and only returned to see who one. i didn't really care since i wouldn't have picked either one (although i did like saleisha - anyone but chantal) but having invested myself in a whole season i felt i should at least see who had become America's. Next. Top. Model. (thank you Tyra - i would have forgot the name of the show had you not reminded me 8 million times)
so there ya go. my 2 cents worth. what are yours?
oh - and in other news. i'm not better yet. this morning i had a rough go of it and as a result my eyeballs feel like they are encrusted with salt :( but i'm working on it. in fact - chris is going to go workout with me right now. i want him to kick my ass. it needs to be kicked. hard.

excuses...excuses.....
that darned iPod isn't charged!
i forgot a pony tail holder!
my stomach hurts!
i'm sleepy!
i'm hungry!
i just want to relax!
i have a lot of crocheting to get done!
my hip hurts!
i have a lot of excuses for not exercising....and...well...they're all completely lame. two of the above i tried to use tonight and almost got away with it. but really - all i'm doing is sitting on the couch either watching t.v., crocheting, or reading. i have no excuse not to exercise and a closet full of pants that no longer fit screaming at me to do it!
so....why i am wasting time that could be used for exercising to blog? well...i'm waiting for the iPod to charge up so i can enjoy it while i kick my fat ass into shape!
later :)

Oh!
the view from my treadmill is not spectacular. in fact - minus the tv (when it's on) it's rather dull. i find myself staring at this outlet as it's rather high on the wall (for the air conditioner). it seems to have taken on a personality. this tiny little face saying 'Oh!' hmmmm....
have you heard the new song by Leann Rhimes - 'Nothin' Better To Do'? i love that song. currently listening to it in fact. although it did make me hurt my hip. well - i suppose i made me hurt my hip but nonetheless.... i was listening to the song while walking on the treadmill and got a bit spunky and sassy (did i really just use the word 'sassy'?) in my walk and it got rather bouncy. i may have also waved my hands about in the air. (nerdy..i know...but chris wasn't home) as a result i think i pulled a muscle in my hip and it hurt for weeks afterwards...ouch!
this blog is turning into treadmill stories. i don't really have much else to yak about. oh - i got some new yarn today! i know...i know..i shouldn't have. but it's for this extremely cute teddy bear pattern i found. i also bought stuffing. hopefully it turns out. i'll post pics when it's done. oh! and i found this posting there (at Micheals) - Warm Up America. Check it out - great idea for using up any scraps of yarn you can't figure out a use for! :)
what else?
i'm still stuffing envelopes at work! My fingers - aside from getting numerous paper cuts - were also getting rubbed raw along my right pinky from the outer lip of the envelope. then i discovered the latex gloves (of which the blood center is littered with!) and they are wonderful!
alright - dinner is served and i'm outta here :)

Amputation....
everytime (okay...so it's only been twice) that i've gone for a nice long walk alone that darned toe turns into one massive blister. i've tried two different shoes and two kinds of socks. i even tried taking my sock off half way home because it was just killing me! i think it's the socks...and those damn seams that hit right on the toe. argh.
my toe hurts :(

Biggest Loser
no - not the TV show. anyone can lose weight when you have 24 hours a day in which to concentrate soley on that purpose - not to mention the personnal trainers at your side. but i digress....
here at work a group has started their own 'Biggest Loser' contest. each participant contributes $20 to the pot and then at the end (i guess the people who organized the contest actually watch the show becuase our contest will end the day the show ends) whoever has lost the largest percent of their body weight wins the pot! i'm in!
i'll take whatever motivation i can get! and seeing as how i just (this past thursday) starting working out again it should be fun! if you read my blog you've probably noticed that i've just started working out a lot - but this time i can feel it sticking. the weather has finally cooled off and i no longer sweat at the mere thought of the treadmill. plus i discovered a wonderous invention - the iPod.
chris has an iPod shuffle that he uses when working out and i never paid much attention to it until i started using the treadmill again. i love to (need to) workout to loud music and am not able to do that living in an apartment. now i can! he showed me how to upload music onto it and what not and then we went and bought a pair of normal headphones (i just cannot do those ear bud thingies) and now i'm set. i love it!
and i'm going to kick ass in this contest - not only could i stand to lose that weight but i could also use the extra cash :)
I'll mention it again - I have set up a private blog (Motivation for Movement) for those needing encouragement or a place to just share their experiences on the exercise/weight-loss(or gain) roller coaster. It seems to have been forgotten about as of late but it's been a busy summer. I - however - am going to start posting again and invite anyone who'd like to join me to do so! Just send me message and I'll send you the invite :)

# 5
thursday
5th post
i just finished Day 7 - but as i had started uploading pictures for it a few days ago it published it in the order it was started in - so go back a few posts and you'll find it. it's long.
as for the rest of my thursday - the day of eight million posts. i went home shortly after the last blog. i was in severe pain. severe. i barely made it home and then just basically wanted to die. in all my years of suffering from severe cramps i have never ever felt such severe pain. i thought i might have to go the ER. it royally sucked. i finally managed to get to sleep though.
when i woke up i felt fantastic! i decided it would be a good idea to get in my exercise. i did the treadmill. i did sit-ups. i felt like dying again - not from cramps this time. just general nausea but still. as mentioned earlier common sense and i are not good buddies.
i feel okay now. and i accomplished most of what i wanted to despite brief encounter with death. i baked - it looks awful but tastes good. i blogged. all is good.
now i must rest.
goodnight :)

Friday
i feel a LOT better.
the day after writing that blog was tough (i started to type 'tuff'. sigh....) i had another bout of crying. poor chris just sat patiently with me as i attempted to explain my situation (again). it helped me to verbalize what i was going through. i felt like i understood myself better afterwards. i can't say the same for chris - but i think he understood - not why i was crying - but that i was determined to not continue on that path.
since then i've felt good. i've gone back to curves.* i got back onto the treadmill. i started my sit-up routine. i started hula-hooping again. i can feel the difference already. not so much in the way my body looks but in the way i feel mentally. i have a sense of accomplishment that I want to keep up. it's hard to start the exercise again - my body is not used to it. but it will get easier and pretty soon it'll look forward to the routine. :)
so that is where i'm at. tonight i'll go to curves again. i'll do the whole treadmill/sit-up/hula-hooping bit. after that...well...i'm having a rather nerdy desire to go the Barnes and Noble Harry Potter Party. i don't have anyone to go with though. this hasn't stopped my mom who plans to go by herself :) perhaps i'll do the same. i did order the book and it's scheduled to arrive tomorrow but i want to start reading it tonight! :)
alright. back to work. and speaking of work that is another area that i'm going to be more positive about. i really shouldn't have complained about it so much. it was the depression speaking. although i don't have a lot to do i like my job. i like that have big chunks of time to enjoy a good book. or do research on the internet for a business i might want to start someday. so no more complaining. (maybe :))
*curves. i love curves. i think it's a great place to workout. i'm not a fan of the gyms. big burly men grunting and skinny girls all dolled up trying to pick up the grunting men. curves provides me with a safe place to work out. just women. usually older. all there for a common goal. i like it.
that said - since moving from duluth i have tried 3 different curves. the first was really nice. it was spacious and had a lot of machines that i hadn't used before. it was also pretty empty which was also nice. my problem was the owner. she was very nice but insisted on sitting in the center of the circle and chatting with me. that would have been fine (although chatting while working is not a favorite thing of mine) except that it was extremely awkward conversation. that combined with the location prompted me to try another curves.
this curves was located right next to a subway. no one wants to smell food while they're working out. ick. shortly after i started there though they moved to a new location - closer to me which was great. but the vibe was still the same - just kinda...ick. i didn't like being there. i didn't feel welcome. not only that but they didn't have very many machines. the new location was much larger but they didn't add any machines. it was annoying. but the final straw came this past wednesday when i went in and the lady working talked non-stop to the other woman there. all about her the birth of her grandchild (in way too much detail). and just on and on about a whole lot of stuff I didn't care to know - especially at the volume with which she chose to tell it! then she left to go get subway! what? you work in an exercise facility - you are extrememly overweight - and you're going to go get food to chow down in front of others? not only that but you're going to leave your place of employment while there are patrons there? i'm still debating sending a letter of complaint to the owner. i found it completely rude and highly highly annoying.
yesterday i went to the curves in woodbury. it is very much like the curves i left in duluth. warm. welcoming. friendly. i love it! and i look forward to going there tonight :)
sorry about the rant. now that it's off my chest i can let it go though.
p.s. Welcome to my blog Audrey :)

let's work together!
you wash your clothes. you put on your jeans and discover that they have shrunk! you frantically search through the rest of your clothes to assess the damage only to come to the realization that your clothes did not shrink. you are just too fat to fit into them....
your stomach rolls extend to your sides and beyond.....
your thighs rub together (this is especially annoying in the summer....ow!)
you wave and realize you have grandma arms....
your stomach sticks out farther than your boobs without poofing it out.....
you have major muffin-top....
the straps on the sides of your bikini undies disappear into your side chub......
want to end these days? then join me in an exercise challenge! maybe you want to not be mortified wearing that new swimsuit. maybe you have a big event coming up. maybe you just want to feel better. maybe your stressed out or depressed. then please join me!
i can attest to the fact that once you get started exercising is amazing! last summer and fall i lost a total of 38.5 inches and 17 pounds! I also managed to completely kick the depression that had weighed me down for so long. unfortunately i got lazy this year. i slacked off and 'nested' and because of that got what i refer to as 'happy fat' but trust me - there is nothing happy about it.
i've been trying to get back into a routine and it's just not happening. i need some motivation. and i'm hoping that you all need some too. so join me in this exercise challenge!
what to do:
- write me or post me and let me know you are joining (j.michellemcmullin@gmail.com)
- ideally i would like to be posting daily about this. just a short little blurb. i know that this is kind of difficult but it is a challenge. if not every day than At Least once a week.
don't have a blog? the bloggers can do this via e-mail as well to include all!
what to post:
- routine:
create an exercise routine for yourself. throw in some variations so it doesn't get old. share your ideas! have an exercise that you think is fantastic? post it! found a great new dvd? post it! discovered some great music to work out to? post it! share your ideas - not only will you find new inspiration but you'll also inspire others! :)
- eating habits:
have a goal? post it! share your healthy meal/snack suggestions!
- thoughts:
frustrated - share it - we can all encourage each other! happy - share that too! :)
- results:
this might be the most difficult but do it - and don't lie! :) every month we can do a weigh in! i go to curves and they do your measurements (arms, waist, abs, hips, and thighs). i encourage you to record those measurements. sometimes you don't always see results right away in the actual weight but you'll definitely lose some inches and it's always good to see those numbers go down!
the key is to NOT weigh yourself daily or even weekly for that matter. it takes time and there is nothing more depressing than getting on the scale and seeing no results! stick to once a month - trust me :) try to do it at the same time of day and not after exercising - always before!
what do you think?
these are just my ideas and i would be happy to get suggestions so send them my way!
i'd like to start the challenge on Wednesday May 30th (but join at anytime!)
hopefully this will give you all time to read it and think it over. and also a chance to have a last hurrah this holiday weekend :)
let me know what y'all think :)

updates
hello all!
i don't have a real agenda in my posting tonight. at least no organized agenda. i also have no pictures to post which is slightly annoying to me because i'm rather obsessed with having a picture per post.
hmmm...where to start.....
kitty update:
my friend becca is the process of asking a friend of hers is they can adopt my cats. i hope to hear back from her by tomorrow. if that plan doesn't work then i have a plan B.
plan B involves chris and i going up to duluth this saturday. after talking with my mother the topic of a kennel came up again. it was something we had talked about before but my dad wasn't up to building one and neither was a friend of my mom's that she tried to hire for the job. so chris said 'that'd be easy!' and we shall see if he's right :) we've drawn up some plans based on the only cat kennel i've ever seen and which belonged to my friend kari (hi kari!). so hopefully all goes well and the kitties will have a new home out in the garage by monday!
if that doesn't work then despite protests from chris i'm taking albus and sneaking him into his no pets apartment.
oh - and before any of this plan was hatched we were as you can imagine desperate. i had gotten a note from my friend kari (hi again!) and my memory failed me as to what it said. i thought it said she could take the cats but she lives all the way in Ohio. i later re-read the message and realized it said she'd be glad to take them but she lives in a place that doesn't allow them. oops. anyhow - my mom was willing to give me the money to drive down to ohio to give the kitties to kari! craziness!
job update:
i still have no job. i still have no money. i barely have enough money to purchase gas to drive to interviews - gas is now almost $3 a gallon! holy shit.
i did have 3 interviews this week. two were for temp agencies that are currently sending out my resume. hopefully i will hear back from them soon. i've never done temp work and am a little uneasy about the uncertainty of it all. i'd prefer to have a full time job no strings but i'll obviously take anything i can get!
one interview was for a job that i would really really like. full time receptionist. i should hear back from this by tomorrow or monday (keep your fingers crossed for me!). it seems they need a new receptionist - although i have no idea why.....
i arrived for the interview and saw no one at the front desk. so i saw someone else standing nearby who asked if they could help me. i said yes that i had an interview. she told me to go the front desk - i still didn't see anyone there but walked over anyhow. when i got closer i realized that the receptionist was slouched down very low in her chair and fast asleep! i was completely taken aback! i said 'hello' - no response. so i just stood there awkwardly for a few moments until she finally awoke. needless to say if was very awkward and weird....can't imagine why they are interviewing for a new one.....
working out update:
i'm lazy. i try but i'm lazy. what else is new, right? chris and i did go for a walk around lake elmo today (3.7 mi) - very beautiful! so at least i 'grooved' my body for a little bit. that allows me the papa murphy's pizza and chocolate chip cookie dough, right? i thought so :)
travel update:
i'm still planning on going to ohio this summer. i was super excited about it. then i read my friend carrie's blog and found out they just bought tickets for a trip to sweden. my trip now seems sadly lame in comparison.
hair update:
i think in the last month i may have mentioned more than once how poor i am. this means i cannot afford to maintain my hair. my bangs are going to cover my face soon and my eyebrows have a mind of their own. seriously...cross those fingers for me in hopes i get a freaking job.
dog update:
i dog sat for my friend kelly this past week. (i still have to post pictures of their wedding but i don't have access to my photo shop. if you are interested check out molly's - the maid of honor - page. she has a much nicer camera!)
'the log' as i'm fond of calling their dog - loggerhead - is a cute cute cute HYPER little poop machine. prior to receiving this little bundle of joy i found out that he ate an entire leather journal cover. then upon entering my (well...kristin's) home he promptly tore into moose's dog food bag and ate two large bowls worth. needless to say that combined with the excitement/nervousness of a new place made for a not happy tummy. after shitting on kristin's white carpet he got me up every 40 minutes that first night. i wanted to throw him out the window. unless i gave birth to it - i should have to get up that often for anything. he did settle after the second night and all was good. moose and he got along just fine and we had fun taking them to the dog park a lot. we did discover that the log likes to hump - and he isn't picky. butt...head...he'll hump it. 4 times his size? no problem! it was funny to see :)
i also found out that chris gets to dog-sit for a nattie in a month or so! i love that dog :)
dinner update:
chris will be home soon and so will the chicken and herb Mediterranean pizza - so it's time go!
