Halloween 2007

(i actually typed 'Halloween's a bitch getting old...)

Here are some pictures from my Halloween baking adventures :)

First off we have Almond Bars with a dyed orange frosting to make them more festive :) They turned out fantastic! Just as good as Chris's sister made them! (Unlike the sugar cookies - she gave me the recipe but I'm still convinced she left out an ingredient just so that hers will always be better.......kidding of course...) I found the recipe for these delicious bars here.

Next up were the Scary Eyeball Cookies! I was incredibly pleased at how easy there were and how cute they turned out! Big hit! :) The recipe for these can be found here :) Enjoy!

*(I used the brown Reeses Pieces for the pupils instead of the Butter Finger BB's)

And here is the proud Girl Scout with her cookies :) (the vest is mine as are all the badges...)

Hope y'all had a great Halloween!!

Pardon my French....

but some people should really just piss off.....

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!

Mine Ears!

miniere's disease sucks ass....

i don't know why but my ears have been acting up the past few weeks and today it's worse. i feel like i'm on the verge of getting vertigo and if you've ever had it you know there is nothing worse. i'd rather have the flue and strep throat and my period...anything but vertigo.

so hopefully it'll go away. or at worst - i'll actually get sick and then it will clear up again for a few months :)

Happiness is a....

SILENT SPACE! (bang bang shoot shoot)

(sorry - the song is just stuck in my head - as if you couldn't tell)

so a man just came and fixed the 'beep beep fucking beep' and i couldn't be happier. he also gave me his direct line for the next time it happens :) yay! ears feel soooooooooo good right now :)

1 hour and 45 minutes to go....

Mother Superior jumped the gun...

it's so quite at work on friday afternoons.....

it wouldn't be so bad except that a computer in the equipment room around the corner has something wrong with it and keeps beeping.

it's like chinese water torture after awhile. not to mention that it's beeping on my left side - the side that i have that damned ear disease on - which just happens to be acting up at the moment. ARRRRRGGGGGHHH!

i've made numerous calls to try and get someone over here to fix it but to no avail. i hate being a pest about it but it's driving me insane.......

hopefully i can survive the next 2.5 hours! then i'm heading straight up to duluth. hopefully i'll make it in time to have some dinner before my mom and i (and hopefully carrie and sarah) go to see 'Across the Universe'! i'm so excited to take her to this as we are both huge Beatles nerds!

hmph - the word 'hopefully' appears three times right under one another (or at least it does in this draft)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND CHRIST AND MOTHER MARY MAKE THAT BEEPING STOP!!!!!

i'm going to make yet another call and attempt to read.

my ears are going to start bleeding soon....

Pet Peeve

i strongly dislike it when people (especially in an apartment complex) do not clean off the linto trapper thingy after drying their clothes.

Kitty Hat (Correct Size!)

I finally got it exactly like I wanted it - correct size! And I love the birthday yarn! (Thank you Carrie!)

Now I'm off to do more crocheting - my eyes feel a ton better today! :)

You Say It's Your Birthday?

It's MY Birthday too - Yeah!

and I'm gonna have a good time!

On the agenda:

Lunch with Chris - he's bringing it into work :) (what a sweetheart!) Along with the 2 trays of Rice Krispie treats he made last night (one regular and one peanut butter with chocolate on top!)

Dinner with Chris and some friends at the wonderful Tum Rup Thai followed by a few drinks at Figlio's :)

Movie Shoot! Chris and I are going to be extra's in my friend Carrie's film 'White Man's World' this evening!

I love birthdays! You'd think I'd be better at remembering them because of that but for some reason I'm not - need to work on that! Chris and I felt like asses yesterday after realizing that we had called his dad on Saturday and mentioned that my birthday was coming up only to realize last night that we completely forgot his birthday on the 10th! Oops!

It was a great weekend! Friday night myself and 3 friends headed over to Minneapolis to be extra's on the 'White Man's World' shoot. Carrie gave me an early birthday gift - some beautiful yarn that I cannot wait to use, some note cards (I need to start writing more letters) and yummy chocolate :) Then 3 of us headed out for drinks and some good girl chat time :) Saturday Chris and I headed out (along with Nattie whome we had for the weekend) to Willmar to see his family :) It was a gorgeous day and we went out on the lake for a boat ride :) Yesterday his mom gave me a cake (Carter - his nephew - was super cute and kept sticking his fingers into the icing!) and an awesome birthday gift - knitting needles, 3 skiens of yarn, and a fabulous felting project book! (I've never done it before but am really excited to give it a go). We also got to see his sister Megan's new apartment - very nice! So yeah - it was a great weekend!

Alright - back to "work" :) I'll post some pictures of the night's festivities tomorrow :)

And as of yet - 12:11pm I'm still 26 :) Got a few hours left at least :)

Yarn A-Go-Go....

i didn't realize i had amassed such a collection of yarns......
chris and i got a note today informing us that they'll be showing the apartment this week! this is stressful - the apartment is a) a mess and b) somewhere i'm not technically supposed to be living but all one of the closet and its contents say otherwise....
we decided to not worry about 'b' as it is what it is and we'll be gone in a month. as for 'a' we started to clean. this included doing the mountain of laundry we had and me attempting to sort through the mess i've made of his place....i can be a slob (i know i find it hard to believe but trust me on this....)
i made some headway. the floor outside the closet can now be seen. first time in months. the chair in the living room can also be seen - in it before all that yarn - shown above! ay yi yi! where did it all come from? i only started crocheting 2 months ago! and so much yellow yarn from when i knitted that horid baby blanket for my nephew - SO much yellow yarn....
but it looks good now, eh? :)
i'm workin' on it.....

Kitty Hat!

i found this pattern awhile ago and have been dying to try it - and finally did! unfortunately I made it a bit too big (i added a few stitches because i have a larger head than most people....won't do that next time). it's supposed to have ear flaps but because it's already a tad too big it looked funny with them. i'm going to try and shrink it a bit - but other than that I love the style and can't wait to try some other color options :)

so there ya go :) the kitty hat :)

across the universe

words are flowing out like
endless rain into a paper cup
they slither while they pass
they slip away across the universe
pools of sorrow, waves of joy
are drifting through my open mind
possessing and caressing me
images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
that call me on and on across the universe
thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe
sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
limitless undying love which
shines around me like a
million suns
it calls me on and on across the universe

(see this movie! and also get the soundtrack! completely and utterly fantastically awesome! i'm completely in love with it)

First (completed) Hat!

here it is - my first (completed) hat - modeled so kindly by it's recipient Eric :)
i found the pattern here if you're interested
(made with Lion's Brand purple Chenile)

i like my job

if my mom's reading this (hi mom!) i bet she thought she'd never here me say those words :) but it's true - i like my job.

granted i have cranky days - who doesn't. and i'm sure if you pay close attention you'll hear me complain more than praise - but as a people - we are more vocal when something has gone wrong rather than good. it's just a fact.

so i suppose that's why i wanted to write this blog. so the next time i'm having a cranky day i can read it and remind myself that it's all good.

i work with some wonderful people. everyone seems to be on that same level of understanding - we get each other. we can joke around with one another. i love that i work at the front desk and not tucked away in a cube. i like seeing everyone come and go and interacting with them all. i love it when people stop by to chit chat.

and let's be honest - i like the fact that i can crochet at my desk :) who wouldn't :)

so yeah - it's all good. the only minor frustrations today have been non-work related. not being able to open the packaging around the Midol pill I so desperately needed - childproofing has gone too far. or people who used to have my job and keep popping up at unexpected times and annoying me - okay so that one was work related. but there are two departments in the building i work at and the 'like' part refers to my department. that person came from the other side.

alright - back to my crocheting :)

Knitting Again

i'm knitting again :) (and strangely enough also reading a book called knitting)

another co-worker stopped by my desk with a skien of yarn (purple again - seems to be a thing..) and wanted me to make the scarf show on the label. i said sure - then noticed it was knitting. i thought i'd have a hard time picking up the needles again but it was easier than i thought and i'm glad i did it - opens up the crafting world a bit more.

the scarf doesn't look like the picture on the label but i've begun to notice that these projects rarely do. oh well - it's super soft and thick and i'm liking it. i'm not liking the fact that the yarn has already managed to work itself into a clusterfuck or the fact that i'm a tight knitter despite desperate attempts to avoid it. other than that it's going good.

but i'm still stuck on a price. this project is something that requires home time as the yarn - pulling from both ends - is too much of a mess to have at the desk. so it's taking up my time. am i sounding snotty? i don't mean to - i love doing this. i just don't know how much to charge when people ask me...ideas? please

so yeah - the world of crafting in michelle land is going splendidly :)

i'll start posting some finished product pics along with some patterns (or links to them) soon (well - maybe after the holidays as some of them might be gifts...)

question: hats

as you may have noticed from previous blogs i have started to crochet. yesterday a coworker asked me to make him a hat - i told him to bring me the yarn and i'd whip one up. he brought me the yarn this morning (a beautiful soft purple chenile) and i proceeded to whip him up a hat complete with ear flaps - in about 4.5 hours (i have a lot of spare time at my job...).

he was very pleased and asked me what i owed him - i had no idea - it was only the 2nd hat i've ever made (the first one i've ever completed). so i told him he owed me nothing but to make sure he wore it and told everyone where he got it :) (and that then i'd start charging) that he did - people came up telling me how beautiful the hat was. i told them i'd make them one as well and to just bring me the yarn....

...but what should i charge? i don't mind doing them for free but if more and more people come i'd like to earn some extra mulla - any ideas? i have absolutely no clue.....

thanks for your help :)

oh - and if you want a hat or blanket or washclothes or scarf - let me know :)

does anyone else have a problem uploading images to blogger? error message after error message. or just not uploading one picture but uploading others. or choosing to space them all on it's own - a foot here, an inch there, a millimeter here etc?

i spent nearly an half hour uploading the previous blog and it about drove me nuts. once i got them all on i spent another ten minutes attempting to space them correctly! argh. perhaps i shouldn't have uploaded so many pictures. perhaps i shouldn't be so anal about the spacing. but i also don't think it's the operator here - am i wrong?

i am not a 'technologized' person......

Color My World

it was an incredibly wonderful weekend
(sorry about the mass amount of pictures but i can never pic and choose)
(pictures were taken at the following: bayfield, wi/duluth, mn/lake elmo, mn)
