KELLY'S BABY

BOY!!!

that's right ladies and gents - It's a Boy! :)

To Kelly:

seeing these pictures is just unreal to me. I know it should make it more real but...kelly - you are growing another human being inside of you! i just - wow. that is the most astounding and amazing process to me!
i know that you are going to be an absolutely fantastic mother! that little boy is going to have more scrapbooks dedicated to him than anyone i know! and i know you were kinda hoping for a girl (i think all woman kinda do) a boy is going to be fantastic - like molly said - they are extremely devoted to their mama's (and younger siblings - not that your thinking about more at this point in time :))
i'm really just so excited and happy and thrilled for you! always know that you have a strong circle of friends and family that are going to support you no matter what! Good times and stressful times - we'll be there for you! Need a nap? Pickles and Ice-Cream? Call me and I'll come over :)

I love ya with all my heart! :)

Fennel Toothpaste

yes. fennel toothpaste. quite possibly the nastiest thing i've ever heard of.....

but enough of that. like i said - we had a great weekend. even though we got an extremely late start (arriving in duluth at 4pm) it was still a great time. i'm really glad i finally got to meet don and anita - we tried to hatch a solid plan to get chris back up there in a few years :) having them and carrie and steve - why...we'd have friends! (at least friends that in live in the same city or thereabouts) plus don mentioned having game night with drinks - love him already :)

wow - it's already 9pm! chris just finished making dinner (we got a late start tonight. going to the grocery store evidently also meant going shopping at the gap and ae - not that i'm complaining. seeing their cute stuff inspired me to hop on that ellipitical when we got home) so i'm gonna scidaddle and eat. i'll leave you with some (okay...a lot) of pictures from the weekend.

enjoy!

Habanero Beer

that's right. habanero beer. mmmmmmmm......sort of.....

chris and i had dinner last night at Hell's Kitchen with his friends Don and Anita. the menu was pretty decent (great sweet potato fries!) and the drink selection was great. don and chris were curious about the spicy beer and asked for a sample. it was good. not hot - just a hint of pepper at the back of the throat. don went with guiness while chris ordered a pint of the special stuff. yeah. the sample was more than enough. once you start drinking a pint it gets to be a little much....

after dinner we headed out to dublin's to play pool. i think that's the first time we've been "out" with another couple in...well..let's just say a looooooong time! it was fun though. i had a great time and look forward to seeing them again (hopefully) soon :) carrie and steve met us for a drink as well. it was great to see them but the new parents were a wee bit tuckered (can't imagine why....) and turned in early. we turned in not too long after - getting old sure is a bitch....

today we headed down to see the start of the 25th Annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. i remember going to see this once in highschool but this time it was better. i was closer and we had a camera (i'll post the pictures tomorrow). i love seeing all the dogs in their little footies :)

later we headed over to see carrie and the baby. i just got to sit and hold the little one for about 2 hours and it was wonderful! (tick tock tick tock) it was times like that i really miss living in duluth (well - i miss it every time we go up for a visit...). being able to just go over and say hi and hang out. plus now with the baby - i could just go over and sit and hold her all the time....

alright - i'll post more about the weekend tomorrow. right now it's late. i'm tired. we're tired. it's sleepy time..........

Book Club

today was my first ever book club! and while we didn't spend much time discussing the the actual book (the year of yes by maria dahvana headley - a book i still have to actually finish) it was still a great time :)

i miss having that 'girl time.' just sitting around and chatting about anything and everything. nibbling on snacks. having a drink. it's very relaxing and in my opinion needs to happen more often! (stop by any time ladies - especially you Chris - we live close together :)) i got to see kelly who i have not seen since my birthday (the day she found out she was pregnant!)! it was a little depressing to see that her pregnant belly is still smaller than my non-pregnant belly....but i'm working on it. i'm so excited for her though - and can't wait to make a ton of fun baby related things :) speaking of - molly brought along two books full of great knitted toys. hopefully one day i'll be able to make them. right now i'm trying to attempt the knitting with 4 needles thing and it's seems entirely too complicated..but i know i can master it.

alright. that is all. i am currently suffering from severe stomach cramps. yes - i know you were all dying to know that :) i had cramps in my dreams last night. kind of the like when you have to pee in your sleep and you keep dreaming that you have to pee but can't? anyone? (maybe that's just me). so i woke up and took 2 midol (which had never worked for me before so i took advil then a friend gave me a midol and it worked like a miracle so i started taking it. now it sucks again). nothing. i took another. nothing. but for some reason i woke up an hour later feeling really sick - like i'd over medicated. 6 hours later i took another. still notta. well - the cramps are better but i just feel plain sick. bleck.
so yeah - i'm gonna go lay down........

SILVER

yes. that would be my mouth (and my crazy lookin' eyeball). that would also be my temporary crown. ain't it just so darn puuurty?

i was pretty nervous going to the dentist today but was worried for nothing. the whole procedure was completely painless - for which i was very grateful. although the numbness has yet to wear off - and when it does the dentist said my gums would be tender. ouch. so i popped an ib profen just to be on the safe side.

i was pleased (well - pleased would be the wrong word i suppose) to find out that my bill was only $800. i can't believe i just said only $800 (for a tooth). better than the $1200 i had heard some people quote. i still don't have my new dental insurance information so they let me pay half with the promise to call as soon as i recieved my card. hmmm...this was just the temporary crown though. perhaps the next appointment will cost even more making the total about $1200? ohhh sadness....

((DEAR GOD WILL THE PERSON WHO'S CAR ALARM IS GOING OFF DIRECTLY BELOW ME PLEASE TURN IT OFF. BEEP-BEEP BEEP-BEEP! why do people even get car alarms. hello idiot - hearing it go off does not make us want to call the cops to prevent a crime. it makes us want your car to get stolen and you to get pelted.))

anyhow. after the dentist we stopped the grocery store to pick up soft foods. instant mashed potatoes. real potatoes. hummus. pudding. ice-cream. i don't want anything to happen to this temp causing yet another appointment. it must last until next thursday.

in other news. the co-worker of mine who's shower was supposed to be today was cancelled. mind you we still ate all the food that was brought in but the mom-to-be was absent. she checked into the hospital on monday night and is still there. dehydration and a few other problems. i'm pretty sure she's going to be just fine but keep her in your thoughts. i know she is not coming back to work. even if she tries - we're gonna kick her out :)

alright - that's all my news. i'm off to watch tv/crochet until i can feel my tongue/lips/jaw/ again. then perhaps i'll have some mashed potatoes. cheesy ones. then some ice-cream with bailey's on top. mmmmmmm.......(what weight loss challange??)

Making Strides

i am proud to say that i'm getting better at that blasted machine known as the elliptical. what was once my most despised enemy is slowing becoming my friend. (my friend that kicks my ass and makes me sweat more than i thought was possible) i've found that i work well in five minute stretches. 5 minutes on - walk around and drink for a few seconds - 5 minutes on - etc. it's working. yay :)

in other news - a friend at work is due to have her baby on March 1st. we were going to have a shower for her in February but unbeknownst to me it got moved to this Wednesday! i just started her gift this afternoon (thinking i had plenty of time!). now i'm faced with the task of finishing to custom burp clothes in less than 48 hours. eep! (reminds of carrie's shower where i found myself in the same situation - only then it was my own fault) i know i don't have to have them finished by the shower date - but i want to have them done. and so....after this post i will be plopping myself down in front of the tele for a night of crocheting. not that i mind though. i actually really love doing this.

speaking of crocheting - i'm down to one bear - as in one bear left to make. then all of my christmas presents will be complete and all i'll have to do is get them in the mail (which for me is usually the hardest part). since my reading has been sorely lacking since i've picked up this new habit i've decided to add a 'crocheted in 2008' column. i'd like to be able to include pictures too but haven not been able to figure that out. i'll start it as soon as i'm done with the bear :)

what else? went to joann fabrics this weekend and used up most of my gift card. yarn yarn and more yarn :) we also picked up two yards of this really pretty (and durable) fabric to use on the cat post :) i'll post pictures when it's done.

oh - i also got my new (pink) phone yesterday. i get (sadly) very attatched to things and hated to say goodbye to the old (red) one - especially since i had pictures on there that they could not get off. (there were two files in the phone 'In Camera' and 'Saved to Phone'. Once you took a picture it went to 'In Camera' - from there you could send it to another phone or your e-mail. Once you 'Saved to Phone' however it was just that - saved to your phone - unable to be sent anywhere. really annoying and rather misleading. hmph) so i ended up losing some really great pictures. sigh. i like my new phone though. the camera is way better and it's got some other fun features. i hate having to buy them though. i always feel like i'm getting taken to the cleaners (which i'm sure i am). ah well.

and now it's time for dinner :)

how was your day?

i feel good!

dananananana....

i knew that i would now......

danananananana....

i feel nice....

dananananana....

like sugar and spice

okay...you get the point :)

no big reason. i just feel good. one reason is the exercising. i'm sticking to it this time. there is absolutely no excuse for me to sit on my ass and not do it. i got up this morning and exercised. that's something i've been thinking about doing and come morning it's just so darn hard to get up. but i will now. i know how good it feels to get on that treadmill - blast some good music and get pumped. afterwards i'm really awake. the shower feels better. i feel better. it's a good. i love it.

also - i have more energy throughout the day. even if i'm bored - my mood stays good.

so yeah - i feel good. and i thought i'd just share that with y'all since i might be too busy to blog tonight. after work i'm meeting my dad for dinner. he's down here on business which is great becuase i left my winter coat in Duluth over Christmas and he's bringing that down. he's also bringing the very large bottle of Bailey's that my brother got us :) in return i'll give him the scarf (that i finally finished!!) that i knitted him for Christmas. then it's home to exercise. maybe some crocheting afterwards.

how are you today?

2007 - The Year I.....

...fell in love. truely. i feel like i've known him my entire life. i cannot imagine that life without him. i wish everyone the chance to experience this kind of love....

...realized i was growing up. it sounds to odd to say that when you're 27 - but it's true. i can't put my finger on it but the feeling is there.

...learned how to cope with my depression. well...i guess i've always been able to cope or else i wouldn't be here - but with each bout of it i feel like i gain a deeper understanding of myself. this understanding may not be apparent to those having to deal with the crying and the mood swings - but it's there.

...met some wonderful new friends and became closer existing ones. i've had two jobs this year and at both have met some incredible people at both. i've reconnected with friends that i've known for a long time but feel much closer to now.

...learned how to knit and crochet. i've become slightly obsessed with both. my life is filled with yarn and gagets to work that yarn that i never knew existed. i love it. i feel like i'm good at something for the first time in a long time. and while making a hat may not solve world hunger - i feel good when i see something that i've created with my own to hands. something that can be put to use.

...lost weight and gained it back. today i exercised and plan to do it everday. i want to become addicted to it. not only will i lose that weight again but it'll help with the depression.

...moved into a home. well - not a house - an apartment - but a place that feels like home. chris and i share this place. we'll share it for a few years more to come.

...heard my biological clock begin to tick. it's been there all along i guess but this year it made itself known - big time! my friend carrie found out she was pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful little girl. seeing her change and seeing her with the baby have been an incredible experience - one that i want to experience one day. this year will bring more of that as my friend kelly found out that she is pregnant. i cannot wait to see all of her changes and meet her little one. both woman are/are going to be just fantastic mothers.

...realized how hungry i was. sorry - not part of the actual post but i just realized i haven't had my dinner yet and should probably do that. don't worry though - i'll be posting more soon. i've been absent as of late but i joined the blog 365 (because i might be on crack...).....

so...i'll leave you with this wish......

I hope you have a FANTASTIC new year!

Final Reason

alright....i know you've all been anxiously awaiting the other reason for my extrememe excitement and....it is.......
no - it's not baking bread....
sigh....
no no no....i'm not pregnant...
geesh....
KELLY IS PREGNANT!
i had been wondering for awhile and had come across a few hints and called her on friday. she confirmed that she was indeed pregnant and that she had found out on my birthday!
i am so incredibly thrilled for her and richard! they are going to make fantastic parents! i cannot wait to meet baby nelson :)
so....
Congrats Kelly and Richard!!!
oh - you must stop over to kelly's bog and read her own account. the ways she came up with to tell her family are incredibly adorable (i might have to borrow them for myself when the time comes :))
also - while on the phone with kelly being excited about her baby i got the text from carrie telling me she had had a girl! needless to say i've had babies on the brain in a major way ever since. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK.....

Trees, Cats, Babies, Lights & Snow...

or...updates....

TREES:

we have decorated the tree. aunt fran was kind enough to give it to us and i love it :) it just gives the room a special warm glow. i just absolutely love christmas! there are no presents underneath it yet as i'm afraid the cats will tear the paper to bits. so far they've behaved themselves in regards to the tree - i think this is due in part to the fact that chris litterally shook the tree and made it growl (pre-ornaments of course) whenever they came near it :) it was funny.

in other christmas news - everyone's presents are going to be late. i work christmas eve and chris works christmas day so we're spending the holiday here. i haven't had time to finish all the crocheting and such either. ah well. i'm not going to stress.

CATS:

the cats have gotten used to their new home. i have more pictures to post but thought these were cute. minvera is a t.v. kinda gal. i have a feeling is she were a human she'd be a bonbon eating girl who watched her 'stories.' in this particular picture she is watching 'Survivor Man' - she jumped off the couch to go sit right in front of the tele. it appears that survivorman is watching her as well :)

both cats love sinks. and showers. they won't sit in a cat bed but they love the sink. go figure.

BABIES:

Congrats to Carrie and Steve on their baby girl - Dahlia Marie :)

as soon as I heard those words 'It's a Girl' i called chris and told him we were going to duluth! she is absolutely adorable! just look at the above picture - she looks like a doll! (ignore the fact that my lips look purple....)

seeing her made me want one SO much! i cannot imagine what an incredible experience it must be to go through all that and then hold them in your hands. WOW. chris is handling all of my baby babble very well though - thanks hun :) (doesn't he look cute with the wee one :))

LIGHTS:

there is a house in duluth that every year puts on free light show. i've never been until now - it was really cool! tons of beautiful lights. a fire pit to roast marshmellows. mistletoe. hot cider and cookies. and pictures with santa! of course we had to get one :) although santa called me a 'cake eater' - wtf? :) (cake eater - for you non-duluthians - is a term given to those of us who went to school on the east side of town. the schools surrounded my mansionis - although i never knew anyone who lived in them...)

SNOW:

before heading out of town we stopped down by the lake front. it was cold (if you couldn't tell...). we ended up having a snowball fight. chris turned his head right when i threw mine - it got wedged inbetween his face and his sunglasses. oops! it must have been a sight seeing me try and run and not fall with him chasing after me....

we though the below picture was amusing. camo doesn't work so hot in the snow fella's....

and that was our weekend. i should go. almost time for bed and chris wants to play cribbage :)

***ack! look at the font! every time i freaking press enter it changes on its own accord. it also has to put everything in italics. it is driving me batty. does anyone else having this problem. every single time i blog. enter - change font. it takes me about five times to get to the one i want. for istance - right now it says i'm typing in non--italics arial. bull. arrrggghhh.....

1 Reason....

For one reason I am just SO excited - go here :)

Congratulations Carrie and Steve!! Welcome Dahlia Marie :)

Poke 'Em Out!

seriously.

my eyeballs are driving me insane! i woke up this morning to find them almost swollen shut and pink and watering and burning and just - well - gross. tonight after taking much allerguy medication they are no better. the swelling has gone down but they are watering and burning like a bitch :(

i'm not looking forward to waking up tomorrow for work and looking like this. argh.

on a better note i've started some new crocheting projects and hopefully they'll turn out :) i have a huge desire to make more baby things but have to concentrate on Christmas gifts right now - and perhaps using up some of my mass collection of yarn before buying more :)

and now - time for another dose of meds, my cooling eye mask and some sleep!

settled?

when does one feel "settled"?

today i went to carrie's baby shower. it was really fun - second baby shower i've ever been to! her friends did a lovely job of decorating and making everything adorable. the food was excellent as well and the conversation was good.

what does this have to do with feeling "settled" you ask? i'm not quite sure.....

even though i had such a great time i left the shower feeling slightly off. reflective perhaps. in a zone. do you know what i mean? chris picked up on it right away when i got home - saying that women always seem to act that way after being in a large group together. it's not always a bad 'off' just off. reflective....

the shower was at carrie's friend laurie's home - it was beautiful. but it was a home. a house. she was married with a child and another on the way. everything seemed so well put together. a place for everything and everything in it's place.

there were also a few babies there. all very cute and adorable! little blankets. little clothes. and well - it was a baby shower after all - all the baby stuff! there were 2 people - including me - that did not have or were not in the process of having babies. it made for the guessing the price of certain baby items (ala The Price is Right) rather difficult (ah yes! i believe i just bought that feeding set last week...now how much did that cost?) but it was still fun.

i don't know where i'm going with all this really. like i said i'm off...reflective and just trying to understand why - or be able to get it out in a coherent way - ya know? if only i could write like molly...

i am extremely happy where i'm at - i don't mean to convey otherwise. i just don't feel "settled"

i know that having a home doesn't make that go away. having a baby doesn't do it either. in fact i'm sure they can do the exact opposite. i just wonder sometimes if i'm letting days slip by without notice waiting for that "settled" feeling to happen. waiting. like "settled" will just one day knock at my door and say 'Here I am!'

hmph.

perhaps i'm just feelings a tinge of jealousy for the home owners. the mothers. the mothers-to-be. the married women. the "settled" life.

do you feel "settled"?

Dream 1

it's 8am on a Sunday morning. i've been up since 7am. too early to be up when a) i don't have anything to be up for b) i've been feeling like crap due in part to a lack of sleep c) i love to sleep and should jump at any and all opportunities.....

but alas - here i sit. at the computer. eating toast. drinking hot cider. my dreams last night kept me awake and becuase of that or just because i felt like i should start keeping track of them - something i used to do when i was younger. so here goes.....

before i begin let it be known i talk in my sleep. scream (not night terror scream - that is something completely different and utterly terrifying if you've ever heard someone do it). sit-up. i am glad that i'm the one doing this. not that i'm glad to be doing it - given the choice i'd rather it not happen. but given the choice between me or my partner having it and i'd much rather it be me. i cannot imagine waking up to find chris sitting up yelling. or shaking or and whimpering. it would probably - no would - scare the crap out of me (where did this expression come from?...)

so. last night.

i remember this one - which is rare. usually chris is the one telling me what i did and me not having a clue it happened.

i started talking about frogs and hats. in my head it made complete sense. i think i was dreaming in part about the book i'm reading right now - The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. in the book (don't worry it doesn't give any big plot secrets away) the handmaid's wear these white hats with wings - makes me think of Sally Field - remember that? Anyhow - those kind of hats. evidently - in my dream - those hats came in boxes of frogs. at least the first 3 hats did - there was a grand total of 5 that you were required to have (and possibly wear...can't remember). you could keep the frogs or kill them or let them go. i think.

i remember talking about this and chris responding. he asked me 'what about the cows' to which i replied 'what the fuck are you talking about' - cows and hats? come on! evidently (as he told me this morning) he was just testing me to see how awake i was. i jabbered some more - completely annoyed that he didn't understand the hats and frogs and drifted back off to sleep. noteworthy only becuase i can recall my speech sliding into jibberish as i nodded off.

interesting to you? no. interesting for me to look back on? possilby.

the next one started out with me driving a car. do you ever have dreams that take place in the same town? completely different dreams - but the same town. and not a town that you've been to before - possibly a town created from scraps of different 'real' towns? or just a new town? it happens to me a lot.

so - i'm driving a car in this town i've dreamt of before. i take the first exit off the freeway i'm on as i realize i don't want to be on that freeway. (blank spot) next i'm riding a bike in the same town. i recognize the town from dreams that i've had before. i recall memories from those dreams as i ride - in particular i'm riding through a white trash/ghetto part of town and come across a house on the corner. i remember looking at an apartment there with my mom in a previous dream but don't recall the neighborhood being so bad - relieved that i didn't get that apartment. riding one - (blank spot) i'm in an apartment building - looking for what i'm not sure - the way out? somehow i'm at the top and am going down stairs - but there is no back staircase. the stairs go through peoples homes - level after level. some question me - wondering if i'm the person they hired to fix something - but otherwise it seems to be a normal occurence for them. the stairs are tricky as some of them have a bed placed in the middle of them with covers all over the stairs making me slide. sometimes i'm carrying my bike and sometimes i'm not.

(blank spot)

i find myself in my parents condo - which is located in this apartment building - i can tell becuase the style and layout are the same from the ones i passed through. very late 70's early 80's. (the images are so clear - too bad i'm not an artist). i'm chatting with my mom who is packing for some upcoming trips. one is to London - forget the reason why. the other is to Colorado. she is laying out outfits for me to wear on this trip - she's bringing me with her - to go shopping. it takes me awhile for her to tell me the dates - she's confused about what i'm asking. i tell her i need to ask for the time off from work. find out it's December 1st - tell her i can't becuase that is the day Chris and i move into our new apartment - it's also his birthday weekend. next we are in another room playing with the babies. that's right - babies. evidently my mom has recently given birth to triplets! but the babies are incredibly tiny - like miniature babies - toy babies. i'm talking 2 inches. they are all strapped into their tiny car seats asleep. one wakes up - hannah (evidently these triplets are Carrie's sisters triplets). i pick her up and she's smiling and giggling. i want to go take a picture because she is so tiny! i've never seen anything like it and at the same time it's the most normal thing.

i walk down the hall to grab the camera - which i recal is sitting on the dinning room table (chris and i's dining room tabe but for some reason it's in my parents condo). i turn on the hallway light only to discover about 50 of these little wormy millipede things crawling around!!! Ack! (*Chris and I have been having a problem with them. we get about 6 a night on average. they crawl in from outside after the sun sets. it's wierd and they are creeepy . fortunately very slow moving so we can nab them easily. but still extrememly gross. so far the ductape we used to secure the sliding glass door has seemed to work and we haven't had any the past two days) I scream for my mom to come. I walk further down the hall to the room where the camera is and turn on that light only to discover MORE of the wormy millipedes! not only those but these monsterous cockroach type bugs. i'm talking 2 inches long and an inch and a half wide or bigger! and fast! they scurry (ish ish ish) around at an incredible speed. and there are a lot of them just clustered all over the carpet. (in my head these monsterous bugs are a product of the wormy millipedes - what they grow into) they start to scurry across my feet and up my legs. i scream some more. scream for my mom to get the vaccuum cleaner and then scream that they'll only crawl out of it. i'm shaking and trying to get the bugs off of me. ick!

chris wakes me up. i'm still shaking my legs uncontrollably and whimpering. evidently i screamed. it was disgusting. i couldn't fall back asleep. i kept seeing bugs. i kept feeling bugs and as a result probably kept Chris awake by constantly rubbing my feet back and forth over each other.

ick. i hate insect dreams.

when i did manage to fall back asleep i kept dreaming about being awake and making myself remember the dream so i could blog about it. and here i am - blogging about it.

i've finished my breakfast though and will now try to go back to sleep. it's a stormy rainy morning - shouldn't be too hard. first i'll do a thorough bug inspection of the floor. ish.

oh - has anyone else read The Handmaid's Tale? If so - let me know what you think. I'm almost finished and it's scaring the crap out of me.

Chick Pea

chick pea boberg

i got a text message from my friend Carrie today....it said 'guess what?'

i knew immediately that she was pregnant! :)

we exchanged a few more texts and then some e-mails filled with phrases like 'Eeeeeeeeeee' and lots of 'SO's :) I even resorted to an 'OMG'!

needless to say i am Super excited and well...SO happy for her and steve!

it's strange to think that only 9 months ago we were both working a job neither of us was very into - wondering when things would fall into place - and look at her now! she is married and making movies and having a baby! i must admit that i am jealous!

everywhere i have gone today i see babies and more babies! i never believed in that whole biological clock but now.......

anyhow - i just wanted to share this news :) her sister just gave birth to triplets and now a new little one is on the way! i best take out my knitting needles! :)

Welcome Max!

Here he is! I realized that I had not given my sister my new e-mail address and had therefore not received an e-mail with pictures! (that or she was shunning me for forgetting her birthday...again...I'm awful about such things!)

To give you a quick summary here is what the e-mail said :)

"
He was born last Friday morning in the wee hours, coming in at 7lbs 12.7oz. (3.5kg) and was 20 inches long.

He's doing really, really well. His first hobbies are: sleeping, eating and pooping."

I thought that summed it up nicely :) I wish I had photos of my own to post but I am sadly too poor to be taking any trips. My parents, however, are leaving tomorrow to visit and will return with many more pictures that I can post :) So enjoy!

Max

Soren checks out his new baby brother along with Papa Chrisptophe

and once again...max...enjoying one of his favorite hobbies :)
